About Camerata In the 16th century, a prestigious group of artists, patrons, and students formed the Florentine Camerata to foster innovation in the arts. Separately, they lacked influence, but together they changed the artistic culture of their times. Camerata brings together artists, teacher, students, and patrons to foster positive change for all. Central to the Camerata Career Development Program is the Careers in Music course, offered each year as a two-semester sequence. In this course, students create their own press materials, websites, and promotional CD recordings. Additionally, The class covers such topics as copyright and intellectual property, tax law for musicians, incorporation of legal entities, preparing residencies, and music management. Camerata also maintains an Arts Roster of
qualified student ensembles, helping connect performers in the School
of Music with performance opportunities in the Tucson, the Greater
Southwest and Mexico. Students have a comprehensive set of resources available to aid in their professional preparation. Every year, Camerata offers Mock Interviews, Mock Auditions, ongoing career counseling and a variety of professional development workshops on a range of topics. Students have access to Camerata’s extensive library of reference books and periodicals related to music and business. Camerata also coordinates internship opportunities with arts organizations and for-profit companies in the region. In a society where the artistic landscape changes rapidly and constantly, artists must be flexible and entrepreneurial. The Camerata Career Development Program helps students seek out their own opportunities in order to lead a full and rewarding life in the Arts. The University of Arizona School of Music not only empowers students to reach their full potential as artists, but also provides the professional training they need to truly put their careers to music.
